Public Yoga Classes

 Public Yoga Classes

Yoga is how I align with the universe. Nature is where I remember my size. I am both student and teacher. I invite you to join in my practice.

IMG_0076

We all need to attend to the beauty of what we have to offer. The physical practice of yoga is an opportunity to bow in reverence to that which is already within you. This does not require wrapping your foot around your head and placing your big toe in your nostril (thankfully, since I can’t do this…yet 😉)

I aspire to tap in to the root of our most essential nature, deeply interconnected with the rhythms of the earth. I strive to inspire the inherent curiosity and deeply felt sense of wonder that lies within the depths of us, encouraging its full expression as we expand our connection with the earth, ourselves and all the other incredible creatures that call this planet home.

I believe we must first be fully present in our bodies in order to gain freedom from our daily struggles and over identification with our intellectual minds. We all want to lead more balanced, grounded and fulfilling lives. It is my deepest honor to join and support you as you come home to yourself on the mat. Thank you for your practice. Thank you for your presence.

So glad I came to your class! The hot stones were incredibly relaxing, especially after a wonderful, invigorating, asana class. The hot stone therapy put me right in my body and I left your class feeling incredible...

Teaching Style

My teaching style is deeply rooted in the belief that our essential nature is a sacred being of absolute intelligence that is a part of what the universe needs to experience itself as whole. You have all that you seek already within you. We each need only to slow down enough to hear the beauty of our inner wisdom.

Each class is a fusion of tantric philosophy, contemporary wisdom, mindfulness, meditation and movement. I weave a theme throughout the postures with the aim of supporting self-healing, profound heart opening and awakening the embodiment of your highest potential in this moment of your unfolding. I encourage my students to playfully embrace where they are by offering modifications to create greater ease or intensity in the poses. By practicing postures with longer holds, not only does your body grow stronger but you have an opportunity to notice and shift your internal dialogue. When we stay in slightly uncomfortable postures while infusing our body with breath, tenderness and loving attention, we become more skilled at breathing and smiling through the challenging situations in our lives.

Below is my current public class & workshop schedule; mouse over a particular class or workshop for more information. I am also available for private group classes in the beauty of nature or at your event location. Send me a message to schedule a private group class designed specifically for your needs.

Please Note: On September 1, 2015, I relocated south from Humboldt County, California to San Luis Obispo County. For the next year and a half I will be taking a sabbatical from teaching regular yoga classes to make time to establish new roots in SLO,  and build my private Intuitive Healing, Counseling and Yoga Therapy practice in my new location.

Artemisia teaches with an open heart and a big smile. While her practice is rooted in alignment and spirituality I love that she invites her students to play in yoga class. Artemisia’s classes challenge and inspire me to love myself deeply.

I first found Artemisia's wonderful classes via Yoga for a Cause at Om Shala Yoga in Arcata. I was drawn in by the cause, which is Artemisia leading a class to raise money for a local charity. I was really pleasantly surprised by her personal attention to each student, and how she came by and gently moved us into the best positions.

There is something really special about a yoga teacher that cares, and I can really feel the love when she places warm eye pillows on our faces (yay! so nice!), or helps guide our movements with reassuring words.

Possibly the best part of her classes are these great philosophical jewelz she weaves in, for example, "As you are sweating and struggling remember - you are love having a human experience." And bam, I'd be reunited with my intentions and saved from losing pure focus on love.

I love the way she teaches and lives, blessings!

Artemisia is my "fav yoga goddess." She is the shinest teacher ever! Her yoga class is world class and life changing; I always feel so alive and filled with light after her class. You would be so lucky to get a spot in one of her classes:-)

Artemisia teaches her yoga classes from the heart. She artfully fuses her knowledge, skill and love of yoga with her creative and poetic nature. I always come out of her classes feeling happier, lighter and inspired. Inspired to try harder at my poses and then apply them outside of the studio. I am so lucky to have stumbled into her classes, I am hooked!

It is great to be in Artemisia's presence- she is strong and confident and I feel like I am in good hands with her. I trust her advice and her knowledge of yoga. I know I had a unique yoga session and I can say it was exactly what I hoped for. I wanted to clear up some alignment questions and she did that. Artemisia helped me correct some things and helped me to more fully and beautifully express myself in poses. She also added in some great tips for assisting/adjusting students!

I ♥ Artemisia Shine's Hot Stone Yoga class. She really sets the stage for a serene yet powerful practice. You can tell it is important to her that EVERYONE in the room gets the most delicious experience possible. The poetic flow, candles, aromatherapy, live sound, hot stones, and lavender head massage are NOT to be missed!

I am so pleased with Artemisia's class! It is up there on my very favorite things that I have ever done. It was perfect. Impeccable. The rest of my evening after went really well too. Something about me was different in a really good way in my class at the dojo. I know its just a small step on a very long path, but I am glad I took it and very grateful Artemisia was there to show the way. She is an excellent teacher.

Artemisia Shine's gift to Yoga is like the Sun's gift to this planet: Energizing, Revitalizing, Empowering, and Enlightening! The way she teaches class is like no other. By harmonizing all five senses, she guides you easily into an altered awareness. She creates a sacred space, where it is much easier to go deep into inner focus and joyous restoration. Meanwhile. her compete immersion into this collective atmosphere guides the classe’s focus towards challenging themselves, but with compassionate fortitude and loving determination.
My favorite part of this class is when she gives us a reading to contemplate after 30 minutes of the best, most healing Savasana, thanks to the additional sound healing, aroma therapy, hot stones, and massage. Her commitment and dedication towards ensuring the class is healing mind, body, soul, and heart is truly remarkable leaving you feeling a more beautiful you.
I highly recommend this class to anyone who has never experienced a transcendental yoga class before, cause this one's sure to do it! Even experienced yogis will find a spice of rare innovation that’s touching and warm. This is one class that will always be remembered.
This woman is certainly a healer and it just takes her smile to see that.

I started to take Artemisia’s classes in the midst of my last stressful semester at Humboldt State University and I couldn’t have chosen a better time (except SOONER). The welcoming and encouraging atmosphere of the class coupled with the radiant beauty (inside and out) and positivity that seemed to nearly explode out of Artemisia has cultivated feelings inside of me that I had never experienced before. I would leave class literally glowing.

After weeks, not only did my physical body feel amazing (in great shape feeling strong and able) but my attitude and outlook on myself, those around me, and the world was also transforming. In one of the first classes I took, she said to us, “The one you’re looking for is the one who is looking.” That statement has changed my life and has taught me that I am complete in every single way and I have everything I need inside of me to do whatever it is I need to do in life.

Artemisia’s classes always have underlying messages that help immensely with everyday life situations. Her class is more than a workout for your body, it is an uplifting experience that inspires you to delve into your mind and spirit. Artemisia is one of the most amazing human beings I have ever met, just thinking about her awesomeness brightens my day and reminds me of all the things she has taught me through her yoga classes.

The first time I experienced yoga with Artemisia, it was outside on a beautiful warm and sunny Sunday morning. Her class was a great combination of mediation and physical release, challenging yet surprisingly calming for the soul. She is incredibly in-tune with the participants, offering careful guidance to better the yoga experience.
Artemisia's infectious smile and positive energy left me with an inner balance and peace that you can't help but to take with you throughout your day.

I appreciate your generous gift of spirit. You indeed do shine brightly and I am privileged to have those rays fall on me. You classes are wonderful, but I suspect that I would have felt that shine if I had only seen you at the grocery store. Blessing on you and keep radiating.

Artemisia's astounding generosity of spirit inspires a truly unique practice. Her boundless energy and warmth lift me from my own busy mind, my routines and earthly concerns every time. Her class is truly a celebration of our magnificent selves: a dance that combines physical and mental discipline with play, deep soul-exploration and laughter.

Artemisia is an amazingly caring and nuturing instructor. Its impossible to quantify, and even difficult to describe the energy that she brings to the room. She teaches with a sense of peace and serenity we sometimes lack in everyday life. She is an inspirational leader and an encouraging, supportive friend the moment you meet her. Each of the many classes I have attended with Artemisia have been an intense experience of practicing the opening of our hearts through movement and meditation.

Artemisia’s class has been a wonder for me and brought me back to my languishing yoga practice with enthusiasm and dedication. Artemisia brings a beautiful and uniquely effective mix of the the physical, mental, emotional, musical, and spiritual to her teaching and guidance.

Sanskrit/English Poses

“The vibrational purity and resonating power of Sanskrit is above all an opera on a grand cosmic scale that you can sing with your whole heart and being.”  ~Vyass Houston

All of life resonates at a specific vibration.  Sanskrit is considered to be one of the oldest languages on earth, comprised of sacred sounds of rhythm, melody and harmony. The Sanskrit names for the physical asanas, or yoga poses, were crafted to reflect the essential nature of that which they describe. The seed sounds, or bijas, that make up each Sanskrit title for a particular yoga pose, carry a unique and intentional frequency. Perfect pronunciation of these bijas resonate with the essential vibration of the universe itself. To call an asana aloud in Sanskrit while aligning yourself in that particular posture is a tangible way to deeply explore the energy of that pose while unifying sound and physical sensation.

I invite us all to welcome more Sanskrit into our lives!  🙂

I offer below a work in progress – I am compiling a list of yoga poses with their corresponding English names.
♥ I will update this as time allows. ♥
